History of Tsing Yi Island
About the Trail
Tsing Yi is an urban island in New Territories. It is northwest to Victoria Harbour.
Tsing Yi Nature Trail is a beautiful nature trail on this island. It is a popular family trail, around seven kilometers. There are many stairs, but there are rest stops. This hike is a good choice for people that do not have much time to go outside hiking. This hike has a great view. It overlooks the Tsing Ma Bridge, Ma Wan Channel, Ting Kau Bridge and Tsuen Wan. The view is good to take photos. It is also a nice place to get away from the urban city and look at less busy places in Hong Kong. |
Activities
1. Close Up Camera
Equipment: camera with zoom option/smartphone Play in one pair or in a large group. Play in flat area. One person from the group (person A) will be taking a picture in full zoom of an object, tree or anything in the area. While they do this, the rest of the group will be standing in a corner of the area where you are playing. They have to be facing away from person A. Person A then takes the picture and they can choose to leave a clue such as a snippet of the background. That picture is then shown to the rest of the group and they have to guess where it was taken (person A make sure you remember what and where you took a picture of). First person to find where the picture was taken wins. 2. Natural Rainbow (see left) Equipment: A bag to put items in (optional: camera/smartphone) Play in one pair or in a large group. Can be played all along the hike. On the trail, collect leaves, sticks and rocks of different colours of the rainbow. Anything cool or odd that you find. When you reach towards the end of the hike in a flat area, or at a resting pavilion, each person has to arrange their collection out (optional here to make an art piece out of items collected but same rules would apply for deciding the winner) Whoever’s rainbow and collection (or art piece) is most colourful and creative wins. 3. Blindfold game Equipment: A blindfold Preferably on a flat land that is fenced off, blindfold a person. The rest of the group guides the blindfolded person to any surface or object, anything. They touch it for ten seconds. The rest of the group leads the blindfolded persons away from the object they touched, and spins the person around, then removes the blindfold. The person has to find the object they touched. |

Getting there
The easiest way to get there is to take the MTR and then take a taxi. First, take the Tung Chung line (orange line) to Tsing Yi Station. This should take around 15 minutes from Hong Kong Station. It costs $14.2 for an adult and $6.7 for children. After arriving in Tsing Yi, get out at Exit A1 or A2. From there, take a taxi to the southern entrance of Tsing Yi Trail at Liu To Road. The taxi cost is roughly $25 depending on traffic. The Chinese name of the trail is 青衣自然徑. The Cantonese pronunciation is Tsing Yee Tsee Yin Ging and the road name is Liu Tao Dou. Note: If the taxi driver asks, assure him/her that it is easy to get back to Tsing Yi Station. You should arrive at the stairs going up to Tsing Yi Nature Trail. Walk up these stairs. Congratulations, you have started the trail.
Getting back
You should be leaving through the Northern Entrance. There are some toilet cubicles near the Northern Entrance. From the end of the hike, walk down until you see some bus stops. If you get on bus 248, which costs around $6, it will take you back to Tsing Yi MTR Station. There are bathrooms and restaurants in the mall close to Tsing Yi Station.
